With the motive of attracting South Africans, other Africans and the rest of the world to the city and region (Guateng) through shopping; Johannesburg, more lovingly known as Jozi or Jo’Burg, is currently gearing up for its biggest shopping extravaganza of the year – the Joburg Shopping Festival.
Inspired by the over 20-year old Dubai Shopping Festival and with support of proud partners – the Gauteng Tourism Authority, City of Joburg and UnionPay International, the festival promises a great deal of sales, discounts and chances to win free prizes from spa breaks to gourmet dinners, hotel stays and even cars.
Now in the third year, the 2016 Joburg Shopping Festival is set to happen over a 13-day period, from the 28th of July to the 9th of August, 2016. The participating malls this year has increased from two to five with the Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Rosebank Mall, East Rand Mall and the Oriental Plaza, all confirmed.
“We’re excited to bring the Joburg Shopping Festival to Gauteng for the third year – it continues to grow and grow. It’s the biggest shopping event on the African continent, and the special deals and prizes make it well worth travelling for!” says James Delaney, founder and CEO of the Joburg Shopping Festival
“Visitors to the Joburg Shopping Festival will not only be amazed by our shopping – it’s the best on the continent of Africa – but also by the welcome they’ll receive from locals, the ease of using Gautrain and Rea Vaya public transport, and the wealth of restaurants, shows, museums and events going on,” comments Bintu Petsana, Head of Joburg Tourism.
