Syria is not one of the destinations on our bucket list this year. We are as well sure that it is not on yours either. The Syrian Arab Republic or Syria for short is currently in the midst of one of the deadliest conflict the 21st century has witnessed thus far – the Syrian Civil war.
Since last year, the Syrian Ministry of Tourism has been keen on flaunting on the beauty of the war-ravaged country (obviously the untouched parts), by releasings series of videos, with the hope of attracting tourists to its beaches and popular sites. One of the videos – tagged ‘Always Beautiful’, showed off aerial views of parasols laid out on the beach, crowd of swimmers and people on jet skis.
Other videos showcases cities, monuments and interesting points including the ruins of the popular ancient Roman city of Palmyra, which was recently recaptured from the Islamic State group (ISIS). The visuals are in stark contrast to the images of the aftermath of bombings, devastated towns and cities; we are used to seeing in the news.
Many foreign offices currently warn against all travel to all parts of Syria due to the “extremely volatile and dangerous” situation there. Visit Wontra.com to read more information about Syria as a destination.
