Now the world’s largest hotel group (after the successful acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts), Mariott International has opened its first ever hotel in Rwanda – the Kigali Marriott Hotel. It is also the first time the company has ventured into Sub-Saharan Africa region, in its entire 90-year history.
Located along the KN3 Avenue in downtown Kigali and in close proximity to the financial district, embassies, ministries and Kigali City Hall, the 254-room Kigali Marriott Hotel offers world-class meeting spaces with modern amenities and ranks among the country’s biggest and most luxurious properties, further enhancing Kigali’s reputation as a hub for conferences and conventions.
Rooms at the hotel feature floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony with seating area and the marble bathrooms are fitted with a shower, slippers and free toiletries. The rooms are equipped with flat screen HDTVs, a minibar and the hotel also offers free Wi-Fi.
Asides creating approximately 500 jobs with the opening of the Kigali Marriott Hotel; Marriott is in partnership with the Akilah Institute for Women, Women for Women International and Bloomberg Philanthropies to equip Rwandan women with various business skills and more than 25 women has been employed.
Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda is becoming a popular destination for meetings and tourism. The World Travel & Tourism Council revealed the country’s travel and tourism industry generated 7.1% of the country’s GDP in 2015 and predicts a rise at 4.1% annually through 2025.
